Class Title: Quilted Cards/Postcards that can be stamp and mail to your love one!

Class Instructor: Amy Johnson

Class Description: This class will combine elements of collage, quilting, embroidery and sewing to produce a 4” x 6” card suitable for gifting, trading or sending through the mail. The sessions on Feb. 3 will focus primarily on Valentine themes. (Repeat classes can be taught at later dates, and the nearest relevant holiday will be incorporated into the instruction and displays.)

Class Date(s): Saturday, Feb. 3 – 9:30-11:30am; or 1-3pm.

Course Outline: During our class, we will learn how to use fabric and paper components to create cards. Students will be shown how to layer fabrics on a background and backing, how to hand or machine quilt their artwork, and how to attach their work to a backing. We will discuss how to incorporate recyclable items into our artistic endeavors.

Instructor Bio: Amy Johnson has lived in Tullahoma for 20 years. Mother of four grown children, she is an experienced seamstress who has sewn since she was in 4th grade. She freelances as an alterations specialist these days, and has taught sewing classes for Jo-Ann Fabrics in Tullahoma.

Supplies: While some supplies will be furnished, students are encouraged to bring favorite fabrics and trims or embellishments (including ribbons, lace scraps, buttons, beads and embroidery floss) to use and/or share with other students. Many students prefer to use their own sewing machines, but if a machine is needed, please let the Art Center know so that one is reserved for your use. Students are also encouraged to bring their own personal tools such as scissors, cutting mats and rotary cutters if they own such tools. Limited supplies are available at the Art Center.

Class size: Maximum per class = 6; minimum per class = 2.

Level: Intermediate. Sewing experience is required. No beginning sewists, please. There is no upper or lower age limit; as long as a person can operate their sewing machine without instruction, all ages are welcome to participate.
